VALERIE PEZERON: Featured Artist November 2011

Valerie Pezeron is a freelance illustrator living in London. She graduated from Kingston university with a BA Hons in Illustration and Animation in 2005. Since then she has worked for a number of clients in advertising, editorial, publishing, broadcasting, cinema, fashion and music industries. They include Mitchells & Butlers, Universal Music, New Humanist and Sketchbook magazines.



Her work was awarded entry into the AOI Images book for three years in a row. Valerie Pezeron is an educator, teaching illustration on the BA Combined degree at University of East London. Putting to good use a previous qualification in English and American studies, Valerie also writes for various art and design blogs and published magazines. She is a former art editor of Amelia's magazine.



Valerie is not a fan of highly digitalised designs and her commercial illustrations are a healthy mix of hand rendered images and Photoshop- all of her artwork has as its base strong drawing skills. Strong cultural references and wide general knowledge make Valerie a versatile illustrator creating eye catching illustrations to fit a given brief. The constant thread tends to be mixed media collages, introducing screenprinting elements and includes a good dose of surrealism, horror fantasy and quirky humour!



Recently, her interest has widened to include gallery work, public commissions, graphic novels and children's books. A storyteller at heart, she has been working on two ambitious projects developing story, design, hand lettering and images to make Art Books. She has an interest in books as sculptural objects and expects both works in progess to be finished by Christmas this year in time for publication and gallery display next year. The last two years saw Valerie taking on large scale commissions, painting murals for the Islington Mill in Manchester and the Sasson Gallery in Peckham Rye. She enjoyed these so much she also now adds muralist to her extensive resume
