Inspirations
|
|
Just how do illustrators come up with those ideas? What is it that informs and inspires their creations? This new popular column on AOI Portfolios attempts to answer some of those questions by exploring the influences of illustrators who work within a similar discipline. This month, three illustrators who work
with collage talk about their inspirations.

"I can still remember seeing for the first time, in reference books, compelling examples of Rothko (the Seagram Murals) and Roualt (The Old King) - they remain memorable and amongst my favourites still.

"I was first impressed by their use of colour, especially Eva Ryn; she uses really strong vibrant colours and textures in her work. This is something that still inspires me today."

"What appealed to my eye in the work of graphic artists like Semyon Semyonev and Georgii & Vladimir Stenberg is the strength of composition, a strong dynamic graphic structure holding the separate elements together."
